12 tags of 2012 - June

Finally I've got round to doing my take on Tim's June tag!  I distressed the photo (with broken china & wild honey distress inks) a couple of weeks ago - it's been sitting around waiting for me to finish the tag!

I love this photo of my Mum & Dad in the 1940's (I think!) - they both loved dancing (in fact they even met at a dance!).  I remember Mum having a pale blue dress - I think it might have been this one!  I don't think Dad would have worn a 'brown' suit to a dance - but the colours matched - a bit of 'artistic licence'...!

I inked the tag itself in picket fence, broken china, antique linen & a little tattered rose distress stain (& I used up the remains of the stains on the craft sheet on the card behind the photo)
I used Tim's stamps for the background & the quote (love that quote!) & cut out the names of the dances that they used to do from a piece of tissue wrap.
The star is a reminder of one of Dad's favourite songs - Star Dust - which I'm pretty sure they would have danced the fox trot (?) to!  Hunting through my bits, I found the 'hold' word stick, which seemed so appropriate!
I made a tab out of the filmstrip ribbon & added the year they were married.

CC2C - challenge 10

This week, Tim's technique from his "Compendium of Curiosities vol II"  is tissue wrap flowers - you can find it on page 37 in the book...  As usual, this challenge is hosted by the lovely Linda Ledbetter on her Studio L3 blog.  And this week's sponsor is once again The Funkie Junkie Boutique.
I made quite a few tissue wrap flowers practicing the technique, & finally came up with this tag.  I used this flower as it had the most similar shaped flowers to the stamped ones!

I coloured the tissue wrap with bubblegum pink Dylusions ink spray before I made the flower, then added some worn lipstick distress ink to tie it in more with the tag, which 'distressed' the flower even further!  The button in the middle of the flower was a 'gold' one I'd coloured with alcohol inks a while ago (I can't remember which colours now!).  I die cut the leaf from grungeboard, inked it with peacock feather distress ink & added clear embossing powder on top.
On the tag I used Tim's perfect splatter technique with worn lipstick, shaded lilac & peacock feathers, together with forever violet & pewter perfect pearls powders.  The perfect pearls don't show up too well in the photo!  You can just about see a couple of blobs below!

Then I stamped the bottom of the tag with a Dylusions background flower stamp.    I've seen the quote a couple of times recently & I quite like it, so I printed it out on linen cardstock, coloured it with bundled sage & peacock feathers distress inks, cut out the individual words & added them to my tag.

CC2C - challenge 9

This week's technique challenge from Linda over at Studio L3 using Tim Holtz's Compendium of Curiosities vol II page 35 uses Tim's idea-ology Pocket Watch frame.  If you've got Tim's book, you'll see yet more ideas on pages 14, 23, 70, 74 & 75!  - so loads of inspiration!! This week's sponsor is the online shop Simon Says Stamp.

It really was quite a challenge (!) deciding what to do in this small (but perfectly formed!) space!!  Lots & lots of ideas, (even more now I've finished it! - see below*).  I wanted the piece to be bright & cheerful, so I pieced the background from scraps of stamped & coloured card from another project (I'd used a Dyan Reaveley background stamp & Dylusions sprays).  And I cut out the butterflies from an embossed and alcohol-inked piece of packaging which I'd experimented with (but not used) for last week's challenge... I attached the butterflies to the upper part of the frame, to add a bit more dimension.  I like the way you can see through the butterflies to the background! A couple more bits, & it was done!
*I loved doing this challenge, I think the pocket watch frames could become very addictive!!

CC2C - Challenge 8

I can't believe it's June already! - where's the year gone??!!!
This week's Tim Holtz's 'Compendium of Curiosities vol II' challenge, hosted by the lovely Linda at Studio L3 is on page 62 and it's using 'repurposed packaging' - all the details are in the book.  And this time, Tim gives us two ways to 'repurpose' our packaging - I've managed to use both in my card.  Here it is...

And here's the detail - you can see both techniques here better I think!

I always knew it was worth hanging onto my packaging!!!
